A princess, a horse, and a community that said YES
When Kim called Foothills Compassionate Care about her daughter Sharri, no one could have guessed what would unfold.
During their conversations, our Lead Intake Coordinator, Carmen, picked up on something special: Sharri’s lifelong love of horses, and her wish to dress up as a princess and spend time with one.
Though horse visits at a patient’s home are not typically part of our scope of care, Carmen wondered if there might be a way to make it happen. She reached out to volunteers Janet, Deanne, and Mario, who care for Spirit, a gentle buckskin miniature therapy horse. The team’s answer was simple: “Yes.”
Within days, Spirit arrived at Sharri’s home. Dressed in her princess gown, Sharri spent precious moments with her new four-legged friend — a memory her family will cherish forever.
This extraordinary moment was possible because of the community that surrounds Foothills Compassionate Care: staff who listen deeply, volunteers who leap in with open hearts, and donors whose support allows us to put mission above all else. Insurance doesn’t cover wishes like this, but compassion does.
Our work is about more than medical care — it’s about community members caring for each other in ways big and small. And sometimes, it’s about a princess and a miniature horse named Spirit.
